VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Nail Technology (Gel)

The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Nail Technology (Gel) is a Technical Certificate qualification aimed at learners ages 16-19 who are in full time Level 2 education programme and wish to pursue a career as an employed and/or self-employed specialist nail technician.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but in order to optimise their chances of success, a learner will ideally hold a level 1 qualification or equivalent in beauty therapy.

Learning Outcomes

This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for beauty therapy and includes all the required elements to work as a beauty therapist. Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include:

  • Health safety and hygiene
  • Consultation techniques and client care
  • Manicure treatments
  • Pedicure treatments
  • Gel polish applications
  • Anatomy and physiology for nail technologists
  • Nail art services
  • Promote and encourage beauty retail sales
  • Display stock to promote beauty sales
  • Provide and maintain gel nail enhancement
  • Provide and maintain nail wrap enhancements

The Level 2 Diploma in Nail Technology (Gel) allows the nail technician to specialise in gel enhancement applications, enabling mastery of techniques, whereas the Level 2 Diploma in Nail Technology (Liquid and powder) allows the nail technician to concentrate their time in gaining mastery of liquid and powder applications.
